Case Studies

Acquisition

Background to the project
  • An established regional accountancy practice wished to expand into a new region.
  • They also wanted to acquire new audit and tax clients.
The solution
  • Following a period of consultation with our client it was established that the best solution was for our client to acquire an existing practice.
  • This simultaneously achieves both goals, of expanding into new territory and strategically acquiring new clients.
  • This involves lower risk than recruiting a new partner who would be tasked with building a business from scratch.
The result
  • Venatus Business Consultancy employed our ISO credited search methodologies to research the target industry.
  • Identified practices were initially approached, further researched, and merger suitability and desire was ascertained.
  • Within six months of beginning the project the desired practice was merged with our client organisation.
  • All staff were successfully TUPE transferred.
  • Our client had successfully expanded into a new geographic region.
  • Desired clients had been acquired.
  • Both objectives were achieved at substantially lower risk and cost than starting a new venture or recruiting a new team.

Executive Search

Background to the project
  • A new and growing health consultancy was aware that their capability in winning business was outstripping their delivery capability.
  • The cost of employing interim delivery staff was affecting profit margins and they wished to address the balance of permanently employed staff compared to interim staff.
  • Contingency recruiters that were on their preferred supplier list had failed to produce candidates of the requisite calibre.
The solution
  • Venatus Business Consultancy were retained to research five organisations from where, through our market knowledge, it was ascertained that candidates with the correct experience and skills would reside.
  • Using knowledge not only of our client but also of these companies, specific job descriptions were drawn up to guarantee interest in the positions being recruited.
  • All relevant individuals were identified, directly approached, and assessed to determine capability to perform the role being recruited and motivation to embark on a change in career.
  • The five candidates that closest matched our client’s job description were presented to our client for interview.
The result
  • Our client was able to hold all interviews over two days.
  • Our client’s interviewers were fully briefed on each candidate, and each presented candidate was accompanied by CVs, interview notes, references, current remuneration details, and salary expectations.
  • Venatus Business Consultancy were also able to provide all market information that had been gathered throughout the research process: general skills and experience available in the market, typical salaries, benefits and bonuses, and a reputational analysis of the client.
  • The first offer was extended within six weeks of being instructed to begin the project.
  • The candidate accepted the offer and, as a result of advice on how to manage the resignation process, was able to reduce the notice period from three months to six weeks.
